Seanon Wong (who also goes by Sean) is an Associate Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), where he serves as Director of the BSSc Programme in Government and Public Administration in the School of Governance and Policy Science, as well as Director of the International Affairs Research Centre at the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies. During the 2025–2026 academic year, he is the CUHK–Stanford CASBS Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. He was previously a Visiting Professor at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. His academic work focuses on international relations theory, security studies, diplomacy, political psychology, identity and intergroup conflict, and the international relations of East Asia, with a particular emphasis on China. His research has been published in leading journals in the field of International Relations. He serves on the editorial board of European Journal of International Relations and International Relations of the Asia-Pacific, is a member of the international advisory board of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, and acts as an area editor for Oxford Bibliographies (International Relations). His scholarship has been recognized with the Anthony Deos Young Scholar Award (2022) and the Article Award (2017) from the Diplomatic Studies Section of the International Studies Association. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Southern California, a certificate from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies, and both an M.A. in International Relations and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. Outside of academia, Wong is a serious cellist with a deep passion for classical music, and he has occasionally reflected on the possibility of having pursued a career as a musician or musicologist.
